Gordon Ede Speaks Out

Tuesday, February 7, 2006

Gordon Ede, owner of Gordon's, which occupies most of the premises in the proposed development area, has spoken out in support of plans for Yiewsley High Street via the Yiewsley and West Drayton Forum at Hillingdon Chat:
I am the owner of five of these buildings & it was I that initiated a development that I believe will benefit Yiewsley as a town centre. I asked A H A Architecture to work with Hillingdon council, to come up with something good and fresh for our town (Yiewsley means a lot to me as you well know, I have been trading here for 28 years now).

For over a year now we have changed plans several times & have presented what we & the town planners & architects see as an exciting project, also being 4 storey and not 5 as stated in the petition.
The planning application is very specific about five storeys, however, and Phil Groom, a local resident petitioning against the plans, has responded with the observation that it's very worrying that Gordon, as the person who initiated the proposal, seems to be unaware of what those plans call for.

Other responses have been mixed: one suggests that Gordon, as "part of the fabric of Yiewsley... seems the sort of person who would have the area's best interests at heart" whilst another questions his motives and states bluntly, "It's nothing to do with 'keeping up with the times', it's about you maximising profits."

More details of the plans have now been made available online at the Hillingdon Section of ukplanning.com.

Comments, whether for or against the plans, must be submitted within 21 days of the official announcement, that is, no later than February 15th 2006.
