Caring for people with mental health problems More people are suffering from mental distress and relying on friends and family for support. If you have regular contact with someone with symptoms of a severe mental health problem such as schizophrenia or manic depression, you will need support. You may find yourself overburdened and neglecting your own emotional needs.
The Rethink Hillingdon Carers Service was established in 1996 to provide carers with support, information and assistance to reduce the 'burden of care' and to relieve the isolation that often accompanies the caring role.
The services we provide We provide individual support with space and time to talk about the worries and difficulties you may be facing. We manage three carer support groups in the borough of Hillingdon where you can meet other people who have shared some of your feelings and experiences.
We also offer advocacy, opportunities to access respite breaks and advice on services within Hillingdon. We can provide information on mental illness, the treatments available, medication and advise you on what to do if you are concerned that someone may have a mental health problem.
