About Samaritans
Most people have heard of Samaritans but may not really know what we do. We've been around for over 50 years and were one of the first telephone help lines. We offer emotional support to anyone in despair or distress and are non-judgmental, non-political and non-religious.

Samaritans' vision is for a society in which fewer people die by suicide; where people are able to explore their feelings and also acknowledge and respect the feelings of others. Many members of society experience feelings of isolation, distress and despair, which threaten to overwhelm them. We aim to let them know that Samaritans is available 24/7 to provide confidential emotional support. There is a National Number, 08457 909090 (calls charged at the local rate), and our local number is 01895 253355. There is also an email service, , and visitors are welcome at 2 Press Road, Uxbridge, although it is best to phone for an appointment first. We hope that given time and space to talk in confidence about their problems people will find a way forward.

Volunteers Needed
Hillingdon Samaritans has a group of dedicated volunteers but we hope to increase these numbers. We also need help with publicity, fundraising and administration. We are very friendly, training is free and thorough, with a strong support system in place for all volunteers. Travel expenses are paid as required. If you would like to find out more, are over 18 years of age and can spare 3 to 4 hours per week, please call our recruitment line on 01895 255987 (answer phone service) – leave your name and address and recruitment literature will be forwarded to you.
