Has your church got one? A web site, that is. If not, why not? They're not difficult to build and needn't be expensive - you can pay as little or as much as you wish - but most importantly, as this short book (24 pages) makes clear, a web site is another doorway into your church. And if your church hasn't got one, that doorway is worse than closed: it doesn't even exist.

Blackmore doesn't pretend that having a web site will solve a church's declining membership problems - what we're talking about here, though the author doesn't use the term, is pre-evangelism: the welcome routine, establishing relationships. Because on the web you're not addressing a congegregation: every visitor is an individual. Will she stay or will she go, be drawn in or driven away?

Starting with the basics of what a web site is (and what it isn't), the book uses a case study to examine key issues: identifying your target audience - existing church members or outsiders, for example - and drawing up appropriate content; making important information accessible from the home page; and choosing the right people for a church web team ("The minister - long trained in writing essays and delivering sermons - may not be the best person to submit magazine-style articles").

Domain names. Links. Search engines. All these and more are touched upon. Whether your church already has a web site, is still thinking about it or has yet to even consider it, you'll find this book to be an invaluable resource either to review what's in place or to set the surf in motion. Don't upload without it.
